113 is a collaborative magazine between Leeds School of Art’s fashion marketing writers and final-year fashion design students. I was responsible for the full editorial design of two feature articles: “A Woman’s World” and “High-Street Shopping in Crisis.”

About

A Woman’s World examines the rise of female power in business, with a particular focus on the fashion industry. The article, written by Beth McParlin and illustrated by Ruth Agypong, inspired a visual direction that mimics a businesswoman’s sketchbook, pairing sharp, structured illustrations with typographic sophistication to mirror the authority and elegance of modern tailoring. The use of graph-paper textures and red-pencil sketches reinforces the blend of strategy and creativity found in the working woman’s world.

High-Street Shopping in Crisis, written by Hannah Doran, critiques the fragmented nature of physical retail environments and proposes strategies for improvement. My design interprets this disconnect visually: using fragmented, black-and-white photography of high-street facades to evoke a sense of abandonment, then gradually shifting to more minimal, serene layouts to symbolise proposed solutions and renewed clarity. The typographic treatment echoes the emotional tone; at times disjointed and stark, then purposeful and calm.
