Critical StudyOn the Use of Ornament In Graphic Design
About
Inspired by 19th-century publishing conventions, I drew on Charles Darwin’s layout styles to imbue the themes of the critical study with a sense of time, as it interrogates ornament from both the Arts & Crafts movement and my contemporary practice.
I aimed to explore the dynamic between expression and control within garden and graphic design styles, investigating how these conventions have shaped and challenged my design practice. The design features an ornamental pattern inspired by the sinuous lines of Art Nouveau, drawing from the natural world.
